What does residential care look like for rescue animals?
Our mission is to rescue and provide a safe, loving forever home for every animal that comes into our care, giving them the opportunity to heal from any trauma or hardship they have endured. We are deeply committed to ensuring that each of our farm residents receives the best possible care, with personalized attention to their unique needs. This includes constructing shelters that are appropriately sized for each animal and providing carefully planned diets that align with their specific dietary restrictions. We strive to create an environment where these animals can not only survive but thrive, experiencing the love, care, and safety they deserve.
Our dedicated team of volunteers and patients plays a crucial role in this process, offering hands-on support and care for the animals. Their work is overseen by experienced supervisors, ensuring that the highest standards of animal welfare are consistently met. Through this compassionate approach, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of every animal that calls our farm home, helping them heal, grow, and live out their lives in peace.
What does The Rescue's surrender policy?
At this time, we are not a location that accepts unscheduled animal drop offs, as our capacity to accept new residents varies. Factors such as available paddock space, the animal's medical requirements, its size, and the urgency of its need for rescue all influence our ability to take in additional animals. Additionally, we must ensure that we have sufficient resources to provide food and care for all residents, which depends on our financial stability. Therefore, we kindly request coordination and communication before bringing any animals to our location.
Why do we use rescue animals in our therapy program?
Our farm animals—each with their unique story of rescue—offer companionship, empathy, and unconditional love to our participants. Through gentle interaction and mutual trust, participants develop essential emotional regulation and experience profound healing.
Animal therapy deeply engages participants with the natural world. Working with animals allows patients to bond with living creatures. This immersion in nature fosters a sense of calm and well-being, reducing stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression. Research shows that time spent outdoors, in green spaces, can enhance mood and mental resilience, offering a restorative effect for individuals dealing with trauma or emotional hardship.
Watching animals recover and grow healthier under patient care fosters a deep sense of accomplishment. These small victories boost self-esteem and build confidence, reinforcing participants' belief in their ability to overcome challenges. This sense of achievement is particularly important for at-risk youth who may have previously struggled with feelings of inadequacy, failure, or insignificance.
Caring for animals requires ongoing attention and consistency. These responsibilities teach individuals about commitment, the need for daily care, and the importance of nurturing. These life skills help participants develop a sense of duty and patience, which they can apply to other aspects of their lives, such as school and personal relationships.
